“EMDR is a structured therapy that encourages the patient to focus briefly on the trauma memory while simultaneously experiencing bilateral stimulation (typically eye movements), which is associated with a reduction in the vividness and emotion associated with the trauma memories. Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy is an extensively researched, effective psychotherapy method proven to help people recover from trauma and PTSD symptoms.”
My approach with EMDR integrates both somatics and IFS. This slows the process down, focuses on resources, and helps support your nervous system.

With somatic therapy we focus on the body and mind to help create a sense of safety and stabilization. Somatic therapy cultivates an awareness of bodily sensations, supports the nervous system, and teaches people to feel safe in their bodies while exploring thoughts, emotions, and memories.
Somatic therapy supports the nervous system healing. How we do that:
Connecting with the body through body sensations, images, behaviors, affect, meaning
Pendulation - guiding and moving between safety and activation
Titration - think baby steps. Moving through activation one step at a time, taking the next step when your system feels ready
Resourcing - strengthening what’s already there to help you feel calm and supported. This can be people, places, things, ect.

IFS or Internal Family Systems is a powerful way to help learn about your inner world. IFS aims to unburden parts of yourself through Self energy.
Self energy- engages with curiosity, compassion, courage, choice, clarity, creativity, connected, confidence, calm
Protective Parts - can be managers and/or firefighters. These parts of us were necessary at one point. They learned their role in your life and system for a reason. In therapy, we do not aim to rid ourselves of these parts but help them work collaboratively with Self.
Exiles - These are vulnerable, hurt parts of us that our protective parts often try to keep hidden or exiled. As protective parts learn to trust Self, Exiles can begin to heal and unburden themselves.

Trauma informed care aims to support the person first. Creating safety, resilience, trust, and collaboration in the therapeutic process.
I pull from evidence-based approaches like IFS, EMDR, mindfulness-based CBT to help create change, support, and empowerment.
